Safe tree pruning work on the Gold Coast
Done properly

There is a right way and a chainsaw way.

Anyone with a saw can shorten a tree. Doing it so the tree stays healthy, keeps its shape and does not throw out weak regrowth takes an arborist who knows where the cut goes. We work to AS4373, the Australian Standard for pruning amenity trees.

  • Crown reduction to bring overall height and spread back safely
  • Crown thinning to let wind and light through without gutting the canopy
  • Deadwooding to take out the limbs that will drop in the next big blow
  • Clearance pruning off roofs, gutters, solar panels, pools and powerlines
  • Formative pruning on younger trees so you never need the big job later
Why people book a lop

Usually one of these four.

If yours is on the list, it is a routine job for the crew and normally a half day or less.

  1. 01
    It is over the house

Limbs across the roofline, blocking gutters or scraping tiles every time it blows.

  2. 02
    It has blocked the light

The backyard has gone dark and nothing will grow underneath any more.

  3. 03
    Storm season is coming

Deadwood and heavy end weight taken out before October so it rides out the summer.

  4. 04
    The neighbours have asked

Overhang across the fence line, sorted before it turns into a dispute.

Getting up there

Climbed or lifted, whichever is safer.

For a lot of Gold Coast blocks the EWP is both faster and safer than climbing, and it means far less time in your yard.

Lopping questions

Worth knowing before you book anyone.

Especially the first one. It is the difference between a tree that recovers and a tree that becomes a hazard.

Is lopping bad for the tree?
Old fashioned topping is, yes. Cutting a tree off at a flat height forces weak regrowth that is more dangerous in five years than what you started with. What we do is crown reduction and selective pruning to Australian Standard AS4373, which reduces the size and weight while keeping the tree's natural form and letting it heal properly.
How much can you take off?
As a rule, no more than about a third of the canopy in one go on a healthy tree. Take more and you stress it into a growth response you will be paying for again shortly. If you need more than that removed, the honest conversation is usually about removal instead.
Can you clear branches off my roof and gutters?
Yes, that is one of our most common jobs on the Coast. We prune back to correct branch collars so the regrowth heads away from the house, and we clear the debris out of your gutters while we are up there if you ask.
What about branches touching the powerlines?
We are qualified to work near powerlines and we will coordinate with the network provider where the job requires it. Do not try this yourself and do not use an unqualified operator, the clearance rules exist for good reason.
When is the best time of year to prune?
For most Gold Coast species, late winter into early spring is ideal. That said, safety work does not wait for a season. If a limb is a hazard, it comes off now.

Other things we can sort while we are on site.

Most Gold Coast jobs turn into two or three jobs once the crew and the gear are already in your driveway. Doing it in one visit is always cheaper.
